A mosquito misting system costs $2,000 to $4,000 installed plus $100 to $200 a month in refills and maintenance. A barrier spray program costs about $400 to $750 for an eight-visit season. Misting suits large, heavily landscaped properties with a permanent outdoor living investment. Barrier spray suits almost everyone else.
How Each One Actually Works
A misting system is a permanent installation: nozzle lines run through your landscaping and release a fine mist on a timer or remote. A barrier treatment is a technician with a backpack fogger applying product to the surfaces where adult mosquitoes rest, every 21 days through the season.
A barrier treatment in progress: a backpack fog through the habitat, not a wall-mounted mist on a timer.
The Honest Cost Comparison
- Misting system: $2,000 to $4,000 to install, then $100 to $200 a month in refills and servicing during the season. Year one lands somewhere around $3,000 to $5,500.
- Barrier program: $400 to $750 for eight visits, April through September, with nothing to install and nothing to maintain.
Over five years the misting system is not automatically more expensive, which surprises people. What it is, reliably, is a bigger commitment and a maintenance obligation.
Where Misting Systems Genuinely Win
Large, heavily landscaped properties where the outdoor space is a serious investment, like a lot of Southlake and Aledo places. Events on demand, since you can trigger it before guests arrive. And consistency, because it runs on a schedule whether or not anyone remembers to book.
Where They Disappoint
Coverage gaps are the big one. Nozzle lines reach what they were plumbed to reach, so the far corners of a large lot and any area added to the landscaping later get nothing. Wind moves the mist. Systems need real maintenance and a neglected one is an expensive ornament. And because they run on a timer rather than on inspection, nobody is walking your property looking for the breeding source that is actually causing the problem.
What We Would Tell You on the Phone
For most Keller, Fort Worth and Saginaw yards, the barrier program does the job for a fraction of the commitment. If you have a large Southlake or Aledo property, entertain outdoors constantly and want it handled permanently, a misting system is a reasonable purchase, and we will still treat the corners it misses.
