Pest Control in Haslet, TX

Almost entirely new construction, which makes it the fire ant capital of our service area. Ten minutes from the shop.

HASLET, RIGHT NOW

What Is Biting in Haslet This Month

Haslet is one of the fastest-growing towns in north Tarrant County and nearly all of it is new construction. Disturbed soil is exactly what fire ants colonize first, so Haslet gives us more fire ant calls per household than anywhere else we work, followed closely by chinch bugs in builder-installed St. Augustine.

New Construction and Disturbed Soil

When a subdivision goes in, the grading destroys the existing ant ecology and fire ants move into the vacuum before anything else re-establishes. That is why a three-year-old Haslet yard can have more mounds than a fifty-year-old Fort Worth yard. It settles down over time, but the first several years need broadcast bait.

Builder Turf and Young Lawns

The St. Augustine and Bermuda that builders lay is young, thin and shallow-rooted for the first couple of seasons. Chinch bugs find that turf easily, and because the damage looks exactly like the drought stress a new lawn also has, it gets misdiagnosed constantly. If your new Haslet lawn has brown patches that more water does not fix, do the float test before you buy more water.

HASLET QUESTIONS

What Haslet Homeowners Ask Us

Why does my brand new house have so many fire ants?

Because it is new. Construction grading wipes out the existing ant species and fire ants recolonize disturbed soil faster than anything else. It is the single most predictable pest pattern in a growing town.

My new lawn is browning. The builder said water more.

Water it properly first, then test. If patches along the driveway and sidewalk do not recover after a week of correct watering, that is the chinch bug signature and more water just raises the bill.

Should I treat before I see a problem?

For fire ants in a new Haslet build, yes. Broadcast bait in early spring is far cheaper than clearing an established population in July, and it keeps the yard usable for kids all summer.
