Chiggers are covered by the yard treatment on our year-round plans. We treat the whole lawn plus a three-foot band at every entry point. Chigger season in North Texas runs May through August, and the bite pattern is the giveaway: clusters exactly where clothing is tight.

How to Know It Is Chiggers and Not Something Else
Chiggers are mite larvae, and they are too small to see without looking hard. They climb until clothing stops them, which is why the bites cluster at the sock line, the waistband, behind the knees and under bra straps rather than scattering randomly like mosquito bites.
The itch usually starts three to six hours after you were in the grass and peaks a day or two later. If you came inside from the yard and woke up with a ring of welts at every elastic band, that is chiggers and not fleas.
Where They Live
- Tall or unmowed grass, especially at the edges of a lawn
- Leaf litter and the shaded, damp ground under trees
- Brush lines, fence rows and anywhere the mower does not reach
- Creek corridors, which is why Keller yards near Bear Creek get hit hardest
- Overwintering in that same leaf litter, which is why the same yards flare up year after year
What Does It Cost?
Chiggers are not sold as a one-off treatment. They are covered by the yard portion of Complete Home Defense, which treats the entire yard year-round at $49.99 to $69.99 a month with no contract, and by the 25-foot ring on Home Defender at $35.99 to $59 a month.
What We Treat
The whole lawn, with particular attention to shaded edges, leaf litter and any brush line, plus a three-foot band around every entry point to the house so they are not carried in on ankles. Clearing leaf litter before the visit meaningfully improves the result, and we will tell you that rather than quietly treating over it.
Does DIY Work on Chiggers?
Mowing shorter and raking out leaf litter genuinely helps and costs nothing. Sulfur dust is the classic home remedy and it does have some repellent effect, though it is messy and short-lived. What does not work is spraying yourself with repellent and calling it solved, because the population in the yard keeps growing all season.
