FORT WORTH, RIGHT NOW

What Is Biting in Fort Worth This Month

Fort Worth is big enough that pest pressure changes by neighborhood. The Alliance corridor and the newer builds north of Loop 820 run heavy on fire ants because the soil is still disturbed. The older neighborhoods with mature canopy, Arlington Heights and the areas around TCU, run heavy on mosquitoes and roaches instead.

North Fort Worth and the Alliance Corridor

This is where our shop is, off I-35W near Harmon Road. It is almost all construction from the last twenty years, which means thin canopy, heavy clay and disturbed soil. Fire ants colonize disturbed soil first, so this is our highest fire ant volume in the whole service area. Young St. Augustine in these yards also brings chinch bug calls every July.

Older Fort Worth, Inside the Loop

Arlington Heights, Ridglea and the streets around TCU have 60 and 70-year-old trees, original brick and original weep holes. That combination gives us mosquitoes in the shade all summer and a steady stream of roach, spider and scorpion calls from homes where the brick has never been sealed.

FORT WORTH QUESTIONS

What Fort Worth Homeowners Ask Us

Do you cover all of Fort Worth?

We route regularly through north and northwest Fort Worth out of the Harmon Road shop, and we go further south and west as the schedule allows. Send your address and we will tell you honestly whether you are on an existing route or waiting a bit longer.

Why do the newer north Fort Worth neighborhoods get so many fire ants?

Disturbed soil. Construction breaks up the ground and removes competing ant species, and fire ants colonize that faster than anything else. It is the single biggest difference between a 2015 build and a 1965 build here.

My older brick home has scorpions. Is that normal?

In older Fort Worth housing stock, yes. Striped bark scorpions come in through weep holes and gaps around door sweeps, hunting the insects already inside. Sealing the weep holes with copper mesh is usually the fix that finally stops it.

Do you treat commercial buildings?

We are set up for residential properties and HOA common areas. Commercial and institutional work needs a different scope, and we would rather refer you to an operator set up for it than take the job and do it badly.

How fast can you get out here?

Usually the same week for north Fort Worth, though May and June are peak and the calendar fills faster then.
