What Is Biting in Northlake This Month
Northlake is mostly new. Pecan Square, the Harvest side and the subdivisions filling in along TX-114 and I-35W were pasture a few years ago, and grading wipes out the existing ant ecology every time. Fire ants recolonize that disturbed soil before anything else does, and the builder-laid turf that goes down on top of it is exactly what chinch bugs prefer.
New Soil, New Fire Ants
When a subdivision goes in, the grading destroys the ant species that were holding the ground and fire ants move into the vacuum first. That is why a three-year-old Northlake yard can carry more mounds than a fifty-year-old Fort Worth yard. It settles down over the years, but the early ones need broadcast bait rather than mound drenching.
Builder Turf and the 114 Corridor
The St. Augustine and Bermuda that builders lay is young, thin and shallow-rooted for its first couple of seasons, and chinch bugs find it easily. Add the open land and commercial development still sitting between neighborhoods along TX-114, and the edges of those newer streets also see more rodent pressure than a settled subdivision would.

How Old the Build Is
The age of the house tells us most of what to expect. Under about five years means fire ants and chinch bugs first. Older than that and the pattern shifts toward the ordinary perimeter pests, and the plan shifts with it.
What the Lot Backs Onto
A Northlake lot backing another finished street is a different job from one backing a field or an active build site. Open ground behind you means chiggers, more rodent pressure and a boundary that needs treating, not just a foundation band.
The Weep Holes on New Brick
New brick homes come with open weep holes along the bottom course, and on a street that is still under construction there is plenty looking for a way in. We treat them with Delta Dust on the first visit, and copper mesh exclusion is available as an add-on.
