Fire Ant Control

Included on both the Home Defender and Complete Home Defense plans. Broadcast bait across the whole yard, not just the mounds you can see.

Fire ant treatment is included on both of our year-round plans, Home Defender and Complete Home Defense, at no extra charge. We treat with whole-yard broadcast bait, because broadcast bait reaches the queen and drenching a mound usually just relocates it.

Why Mound Drenching Disappoints

Pouring product on a mound kills the workers you can see and very often misses the queen, who simply moves the colony a few feet and rebuilds. Two weeks later there are three mounds where there was one, and the homeowner concludes fire ants are unkillable.

Broadcast bait works the opposite way. Foragers pick it up as food, carry it down and feed it to the queen. The colony dies from the inside, and because bait is spread across the entire yard it reaches the colonies you have not spotted yet.

What Does It Cost?

Nothing on its own. Fire ant treatment is part of both year-round plans: Home Defender runs $35.99 to $59 a month and Complete Home Defense runs $49.99 to $69.99 a month, both priced on the square footage of the house, both with no contract. Fire ants come with the plan rather than as an add-on.

Timing Matters More Than with Any Other Pest

  • Bait works when ants are actively foraging, which means spring and fall in North Texas
  • It needs a dry window of about 24 hours after application, so we watch the forecast
  • Mounds surge within days of heavy rain, because water pushes the colony up, not because the rain created it
  • Newer subdivisions with disturbed soil colonize fastest, which is why Haslet and north Keller builds see the most

Fire Ants and Children, Pets and Allergies

A fire ant sting is not just unpleasant. For a small child, an elderly person or anyone with a sting allergy it is a real risk, and a mound in the middle of a play area is the most common reason people finally call. If somebody in the house has a known sting allergy, tell us and we will prioritize the areas they actually use.

Is DIY Fire Ant Control Worth It?

Store-bought broadcast bait is the same category of product we use and it does work if you apply it correctly, at the right time of year, in a dry window, across the whole yard. Most people do none of those things: they spot-treat mounds after rain, which is the one approach almost guaranteed to fail. If you are going to DIY, broadcast the whole yard in early spring and skip the mound drench entirely.

Fire Ant Control Questions

How long until the mounds are gone?

Two to three weeks with broadcast bait, because it has to reach and kill the queen. It is slower than a drench and it is the reason it actually works.

Why did mounds appear right after it rained?

The colony was already there. Rain floods the lower chambers and pushes the ants up, which makes an invisible colony suddenly visible.

Does one treatment keep them gone?

Not on its own. Fire ants reinvade from neighboring property, so a single application clears what is there and the follow-up visits are what keep it clear. That is why fire ant treatment lives inside the year-round plans instead of being sold as a one-off.

Will this hurt my lawn?

No. Bait granules are spread with a broadcast spreader at a very light rate and do not affect turf.

Do you treat pastures or acreage?

We treat residential yards and HOA common areas. If you have several acres of pasture, that is a different scale of job and we will tell you honestly rather than underquote it.
