KELLER, RIGHT NOW

What Is Biting in Keller This Month

Keller's mature tree canopy and creek corridors make it one of the worst mosquito towns in north Tarrant County, and Bear Creek is the reason. Older neighborhoods near the creek run heavy on mosquitoes and chiggers. The newer builds off Keller Haslet Road get more fire ants, because disturbed soil is exactly what fire ants colonize first.

Bear Creek and the Older Canopy

Homes around Bear Creek Park and the older sections off Elm Street sit under 40-year-old oaks and pecans. That canopy holds humidity, which is a mosquito's whole requirement. It also means leaf litter, which is where chiggers overwinter. Our Keller mosquito routes start the third week of March here, about two weeks earlier than the rest of our map.

The Newer Builds North and West

Newer construction off Keller Haslet Road and up toward Mount Gilead has thinner canopy and heavier clay. Fewer mosquitoes, far more fire ants, and more chinch bug pressure in the young St. Augustine that builders install. After any real rain, expect new mounds in the same week.

KELLER QUESTIONS

What Keller Homeowners Ask Us

Why are mosquitoes so bad near Bear Creek?

Bear Creek holds water and the mature canopy above it holds humidity, which is the exact combination mosquitoes need to rest during the day. Yards backing the creek corridor see pressure two to three weeks earlier in spring than yards a mile west, so we start Keller creek routes in late March.

Do you service the Keller ZIPs that mail as Fort Worth?

Yes. Parts of west Keller carry Fort Worth mailing addresses and parts of the northeast mail as Trophy Club or Roanoke. We go by where the house actually is, not what the envelope says. If you are inside Keller city limits, you are on the route.

My new Keller lawn has brown patches. Bug or heat?

In the newer subdivisions with young St. Augustine, it is very often chinch bugs, and the tell is that the patches do not green back up when you water more. Grab the grass at the edge of a patch and tug. If it lifts away with no root resistance, call us. That test takes ninety seconds and saves a lot of water.

How fast can you get to a Keller address?

Usually the same week. We are eleven minutes away, so Keller is one of the easiest towns on our board to fit in, though May and June fill up faster than the rest of the year.

Do you treat Keller schools and HOA common areas?

We handle residential properties and HOA common areas. Commercial and institutional accounts like school districts need a different license category and scope, so we would refer you to an operator set up for that work rather than pretend otherwise.
