The older streets around Knowles Drive have had forty-plus years for the soil to settle and the trees to grow, and fire ants do not love either. Shade cools the ground and undisturbed soil already has other ant species in it, so a mound in central Saginaw tends to be a single colony in the sunniest corner of the front yard.

When fire ant bait disappoints, and why
The first disappointment is speed. Bait has to be gathered by foragers, carried underground and fed to the queen, and that takes two to three weeks. If a mound is sitting where a toddler plays, tell us so we can give that spot attention, but the timeline does not change.
The second is the neighbour. On a compact Saginaw lot the next yard is a few steps away, and if it goes untreated, queens will keep arriving from it. That is not a failure of the bait; it is why the treatment lives inside a year-round plan with visits that keep knocking new colonies back.
