Flea & Tick Control in Benbrook, TX

The most wooded town we cover, which means leaf litter, which means fleas and ticks always have somewhere to live.

LEAF LITTER IS THE ISSUE

Why a shaded Benbrook lot keeps producing fleas and ticks

Nearly everything that bites in a Benbrook yard is living in the same half inch of damp debris. Leaf litter under the trees holds moisture through a Texas July, and immature fleas need that moisture to survive; leave them in open sun on a Bermuda lawn and they die without help. That is why wooded lots near Benbrook Lake and the drainage draws carry a load that a treeless yard two streets over never sees.

Ticks use the same ground for a different reason. Cover and height matter more to them than damp, because they need a stem or a low branch at the edge of the mown line to sit on while they wait for something to walk past. Lone star and American dog ticks are both established in Tarrant County, and a wooded Benbrook boundary is where they hold.

The treatment is the whole lawn plus the band around the building, repeated every 21 days from April into September. On a shaded property it earns more than it does on an open one, for the simple reason that the sun is doing none of the work for you.

BENBROOK, PER VISIT

What the size bands mean for a lot out here

Older interior lots off Winscott and Vega often measure 7,001 to 12,000 square feet, which is $59.95 a visit, with the next step up, 12,001 to 17,000, at $69.95. Larger wooded parcels toward the lake climb through $79.95 and $89.95, and anything over about an acre gets priced individually instead of guessed at from a table.

Two things have no effect on that number: the size of your house and how bad the problem is on the day we start. The lot is the meter. There is no contract behind it, nothing to pay to begin or to quit, and the figure is yours before you agree to anything.

WHERE THIS STOPS

Three honest limits on a Benbrook yard treatment

First, an indoor flea problem is not solved outdoors. When eggs are already in the rug and the dog bed, the house has become its own source and the lawn is no longer the bottleneck. Treat the animal through your veterinarian, vacuum on a schedule, wash the bedding hot, and let the yard program cut off the resupply coming from outside.

Second, we stop at your boundary. Public land around Benbrook Lake is not ours to work on, and neither is the wooded draw on the far side of a back fence. What this does is make your side of that line hostile, which is the practical place to draw it anyway.

Third, if the litter stays, the job is harder than it needs to be. Raking fence lines and beds clear and keeping the mown edge short costs nothing and removes the habitat we would otherwise be treating around. We will point out the exact strips worth clearing on the first visit.

DIY GRANULES VS PROGRAM

A bag of yard granules from the hardware store, or this?

The granules are not fake and they are not a rip-off. Spread properly and watered in, they will knock back adult fleas in the top of the turf, and on a small sunny yard with a light problem that can genuinely be the end of it.

Coverage and timing are where homeowners lose. A wooded Benbrook lot concentrates the population in the exact places a spreader cannot reach, under decks, along a brushy boundary, down in bed litter, and the interval matters as much as the product: a treatment now and another one whenever you remember lets a full generation come through untouched. The 21-day rhythm through the season is most of what you are buying from us, not the chemistry.

FIRST VISIT, BENBROOK

What the first treatment looks like on a wooded lot

Walking the boundary first

On a property that backs onto woods or a drainage, the fence line is where we start and where the most time goes. That band is the source for the ticks and for a good share of the fleas as well.

Under decks, sheds and porches

Anywhere an animal can get underneath and bed down is a flea nursery, dark and damp enough to stay productive right through summer. We treat what we can reach and tell you what is worth blocking off.

Then the lawn and the foundation

Open turf takes far less product than shade does, and the band around the building stops anything using the slab edge as a route to the door. All of it is safe to walk on once dry, roughly two hours in summer heat.

BENBROOK QUESTIONS

Flea & Tick Control Questions From Benbrook

Does this cover chiggers too, or is that separate?

Chiggers ride on the year-round plans rather than this one: the yard portion of Complete Home & Lawn Defense, or the 25-foot ring on Home Defender. Plenty of Benbrook homes run one of those alongside the Mosquito, Flea & Tick visits, because the wooded boundary producing ticks produces chiggers as well.

Should I still be checking the dog for ticks if the yard is treated?

Yes, particularly if your lot touches woods or lake land. Treatment lowers how many ticks are waiting on your side of the fence; it does not make checking unnecessary, and one found within the hour is a very different proposition from one found in three days.

My yard is nearly all shade. Is treating it a waste?

The opposite. Shade is where the product needs to land, because damp shaded ground is where flea larvae develop and where ticks hold. A shaded Benbrook lot gets more out of a treatment than an open sunny one does.

When should a Benbrook yard get on the program?

On the first visit of the season if you had fleas or ticks last year. The lake side warms early and litter under the trees never fully dries, so waiting for the first bite means starting against a peak population instead of a small one.

My Benbrook address mails as Fort Worth. Is that a problem?

Not remotely. Some addresses in 76116 carry Fort Worth on the envelope and we go by where the house sits, not the postmark. Send it over and a price comes back.
