Chigger Control in Haslet, TX

Most new Haslet yards do not have a chigger problem; the ones backing undeveloped land do, and here is how to tell which you have.

NEW TOWN, DIFFERENT PESTS

Chiggers in Haslet: lighter than you would guess, with one exception

Haslet is almost entirely new construction, and that is good news for this particular pest. Chiggers need damp shade, leaf litter and tall grass, and a two-year-old subdivision lawn with no canopy and fresh sod offers almost none of that. Fire ants and chinch bugs are what a new Haslet yard actually fights.

The exception is the lot at the edge of the addition, where the back fence meets undeveloped land or pasture that nobody mows. That tall grass is a chigger nursery from May through August, and the larvae move into the mowed yard wherever the two meet. If your bites cluster at your sock line and waistband after an evening near that fence, this page is for you.

PRICE ON A HASLET HOME

What you pay for chigger coverage in Haslet, and why it follows the house

Chiggers are covered by the whole-yard treatment on Complete Home & Lawn Defense, priced on the square footage of the house at $40 to $73.50 a month with no contract. Haslet's newer homes run larger than the older suburbs, so a 3,000-to-4,500-square-foot build sits at $51.50 to $62 a month, and a 4,500-to-6,000 home at $62 to $73.50.

Home Defender treats a 25-foot ring around the house for $30 to $54 a month, and on an interior lot with no problem edge that ring is often all the yard coverage you need. Because fire ant treatment is included in both plans, a new Haslet build gets its most likely pest handled either way. You see the number before you commit and there is no startup fee.

WHO SHOULD NOT BUY THIS

The case against chigger control on most Haslet lots

If your house sits on an interior lot in a new Haslet addition, surrounded by other mowed yards with no trees to speak of, you almost certainly do not have chiggers, and buying whole-yard coverage for them would be solving a problem you do not have. Look at the bites. Scattered bites on exposed skin are mosquitoes; brown patches in the lawn are chinch bugs, not chiggers.

Where the yard does back onto pasture or a future phase of construction, treatment lowers what lives in your grass but cannot touch what lives on the other side of the fence. That unmowed ground keeps producing larvae all summer, and a treated edge slows them rather than stopping them entirely.

The treatment also depends on you keeping that edge cut. Builder Bermuda along a back fence that gets skipped by the mower grows into exactly the habitat chiggers want, and no product holds up against a habitat you keep rebuilding. Half the job in Haslet is a string trimmer.

RING OR WHOLE YARD

Home Defender's 25-foot ring against the full-yard plan on a Haslet lot

On a standard new-build lot in Haslet, 25 feet out from the foundation reaches most of the back yard, so the Home Defender ring covers the patio, the play set and the side yards. If the chigger edge is that back fence 40 feet out, though, the ring stops short of the only part of the lot that matters for this pest.

Complete Home & Lawn Defense treats every square foot of lawn, including that far fence line, for between about $7 and $20 more a month depending on the house. For an interior lot, save the money and take the ring. For a lot on the edge of the addition backing open land, the whole-yard plan is the one that actually addresses the chiggers.

FIRST VISIT IN HASLET

How we handle a first chigger call in a Haslet addition

Buffalo Outdoor chigger control in Haslet, TX

Confirming it is chiggers

Before anything is applied, the technician looks at where the lot ends and what it touches. If there is no tall grass, no brush and no shade, we will tell you chiggers are unlikely and look for the real cause instead of treating for the wrong thing.

Treating the edge as the front line

On a lot backing undeveloped ground, the back fence line gets the heaviest treatment, then the rest of the lawn, then a three-foot band at every door so larvae are not walked in. Fire ant bait goes down across the yard on the same visit.

HASLET QUESTIONS

Chigger Control Questions From Haslet

Does a brand-new Haslet lawn get chiggers?

Rarely, unless it borders unmowed land. New sod on graded clay with no trees is poor chigger habitat. If a new lawn is giving you trouble, fire ants are the far more likely culprit and they are included in both year-round plans.

My back fence faces a pasture. What should I do first?

Mow and trim your side of that fence as short as you can and keep it that way through August. That alone reduces the problem noticeably; the whole-yard plan then treats the edge you have made less hospitable.

Will the yard treatment harm the young sod the builder laid?

No. The products used on the lawn are labeled for turf and do not damage St. Augustine or Bermuda. Brown patches that appear in a new Haslet lawn are usually chinch bugs or watering problems, not the treatment.

Do chiggers get into the house in Haslet?

They can ride in on ankles and pant legs, which is why every door gets a three-foot treated band. They do not establish indoors the way fleas do, so if you are being bitten in bed, fleas or bed bugs are more likely than chiggers.

How often will a Haslet yard need chigger treatment?

A lot backing open land typically needs two or three treatments across May through August. Retreatments between scheduled visits are included on both plans, so a flare-up between visits is covered rather than billed.
