NEW HOUSE, NEW PESTS
Does a brand-new Haslet home need pest control yet?
Sooner than you would expect, and fire ants are why. Haslet is nearly all recent construction along Intermodal Parkway and the new additions, and grading a subdivision wipes out the ant species that were holding the ground. Fire ants take that vacuum first, which is why a three-year-old Haslet yard can carry more mounds than a fifty-year-old lot in Fort Worth.
The house is not exempt either. Builder brick has the same weep holes along the bottom course as a 1970s home, and until the landscape settles, crickets, earwigs and spiders use them freely. Home Defender covers the perimeter, the eaves, the weep holes and the 25-foot ring, and includes the fire ant bait new Haslet lots need most.
HASLET BY THE SQUARE FOOT
The price for a newer Haslet floor plan
Most Haslet houses are between 2,000 and 4,500 square feet, which puts Home Defender at $33 to $46 a month. Pricing follows the home's square footage because that decides the length of the foundation and the eave line: a 2,200 square foot single story pays $33 to $38 and a 3,600 square foot two story pays $38 to $46. Above 4,500 the band is $46 to $54.
For a new lawn already fighting chinch bugs in builder-laid St. Augustine, Complete Home & Lawn Defense treats the entire yard for $40 to $51.50 on a mid-size house and $51.50 to $62 on a larger one. Nothing is locked into a contract, and retreatments between the four scheduled visits are free.

STRAIGHT ABOUT THE GAPS
What can go wrong with a perimeter plan on a new Haslet lot
The fire ants will not vanish the week we leave. We broadcast bait across the yard rather than drenching mounds, because a drench kills the visible mound and leaves the colony, and bait takes days to weeks to travel through the nest. Expect new mounds after every real rain on disturbed Haslet clay for the first few seasons; retreating them is included.
Brown patches in the lawn may not be a pest problem at all. Builder turf is thin and shallow-rooted, so drought stress and chinch bug damage look identical. If patches along the driveway do not recover after a week of correct watering, that points to chinch bugs, and the whole-yard plan covers them; the 25-foot ring does not reach the far corners.
Mosquitoes are outside the plan entirely. Haslet's thin canopy keeps pressure lighter than the older towns, but a yard backing undeveloped land still gets them, and that is the separate 21-day program.
BAIT VERSUS DRENCH
Mound drench from the store or broadcast bait across the yard
A mound drench is satisfying, and it works on the mound you can see. The trouble on a new Haslet lot is that the colony you see is one of dozens, most without a visible mound yet, and killing the surface nest often just pushes the queen ten feet over.
Broadcast bait is slower and less dramatic. Foraging workers carry it back and the whole colony collapses from the inside over a few weeks, including the ones you did not know about. That is why we ask new Haslet customers to give it time before judging it.
FIRST VISIT, NEW BUILD
What we look at first on a new Haslet property

The graded ground
Where the soil was cut and filled is where the fire ants are, so the technician reads the yard for mounds and baits the whole lawn, not just the obvious spots. The bait needs a few weeks, and rain-driven new mounds are covered.

New brick, same weep holes
Every weep hole in the bottom course gets Delta Dust, new mortar or not. Builder landscaping often leaves mulch piled against the slab and sprinklers wetting the brick, and we tell you what to pull back.

The band, the sweep and the ring
A liquid barrier goes around the foundation and three feet up, the eaves and door frames are swept with a web pole, and granular product is broadcast about 25 feet out.
