Chigger Control in Pelican Bay, TX

Pelican Bay lots are small enough that the chigger edge and the back door are a few steps apart, which changes both the plan and the price you should buy.

SMALL TOWN ON THE WATER

Why a small Pelican Bay lot still gets chiggers

Because the edge is close to everything. Pelican Bay is a compact city on the west shore of Eagle Mountain Lake, and on a lot this size the brush, weeds or shoreline growth at the boundary sits a few steps from the patio. There is no interior buffer the way there is on an acre, so whatever hatches out there reaches the part of the yard people use.

What the larvae need is unglamorous: something standing to climb, shade, and ground that does not dry out. A woodpile, the gap behind a shed, the weedy corner by the gate and an unmown slope toward the water all supply it. When they find you they climb until fabric stops them, so the bites arrive in a band at the ankles and waist, and the itching begins hours after you came in.

THE BOTTOM OF THE TABLE

What Pelican Bay homeowners actually pay for this

Most of Pelican Bay sits at the bottom of the price table, because both year-round plans are priced on the square footage of the house and the houses here are small. Under 1,500 square feet is a flat $40 a month for Complete Home & Lawn Defense, which treats the whole lawn every visit, and 1,500 to 3,000 square feet runs $40 to $51.50. Chigger work is part of that yard treatment, never a service of its own.

Home Defender is $30 a month for the smallest homes and $33 to $38 up to 3,000 square feet, covering a 25-foot ring around the house. On lots this size that ring is a genuine option rather than a compromise, because twenty-five feet from the walls often reaches the fence. Both carry fire ant bait, Delta Dust and copper-mesh sealing of the weep holes, which most companies here bill as an extra, and neither asks you to sign anything.

LIMITS, PLAINLY

Where a Pelican Bay chigger treatment stops working

At the property line, the same as everywhere. Shoreline growth, a vacant lot gone to weeds and a neighbor who does not mow all sit outside what we may put product on, and on a small lot you are never far from one of them. Treating your grass removes the larvae living where you walk, but it is not a wall.

It also stops at anything you keep damp and covered. A tarp over a boat, a woodpile against the fence and a shed skirted with weeds stay hospitable however well the lawn is treated, and on a small Pelican Bay lot those few square feet can be the whole source. Getting the wood onto a rack and the weeds cut back is homeowner work no application substitutes for.

The third limit is diagnosis. Out here one person is often bitten by three things, and mosquitoes off the water and ticks out of the brush both get called chiggers. Ringed welts at the elastic hours after yard work are chiggers; itchy bites on the patio at dusk are not, and pointing this coverage at a mosquito problem helps neither.

MOW ONLY, OR TREAT TOO

Doing nothing but mowing against putting the yard on a plan

Mowing on its own is a real option on a lot this size, and you should hear that from us rather than work it out later. Keep the grass short, weed the fence corners, get the woodpile off the soil, and a sunny Pelican Bay yard can go a summer with hardly a bite. It costs nothing and it is step one whatever you decide.

It stops being enough when the lot has shade or an edge you do not control. A slope toward the water, mature trees or an untended parcel next door rebuilds the population faster than a mower strips the habitat, which is the argument for treating the lawn and laying three feet of treated ground at every door. The plan also carries the return visit when they come back early.

FIRST VISIT, 76020

What the first chigger call covers on a Pelican Bay lot

Buffalo Outdoor chigger control in Pelican Bay, TX

Reading a small lot fast

There is not much ground to cover, so the technician looks straight at the boundary, the shaded side of the house and anything standing on bare soil. The source is usually one or two specific spots rather than the lawn as a whole.

Woodpiles, sheds and tarps

Anything stacked or covered gets lifted and looked under, because dark, damp ground shelters chiggers alongside the spiders and scorpions that come with lake living. Those places are treated, and you will be told which ones need moving instead of spraying.

Doors, and an Azle postmark

Every entrance takes its three-foot treated band so larvae are not carried across the threshold on socks. All of Pelican Bay mails as Azle 76020, and what the envelope says has no effect on the price or the visit.

PELICAN BAY QUESTIONS

Chigger Control Questions From Pelican Bay

My mail says Azle. Am I still in Pelican Bay for service?

Yes, the whole city carries an Azle 76020 mailing address and we price by where the house physically stands. Give us the street address and the quote comes back the same as it would for anywhere else in town.

Is my lot too small for the whole-yard plan to be worth it?

Possibly, and it is a fair question here. If Home Defender's 25-foot ring reaches your fence on three sides, take it and tell us where the biting happens so the technician concentrates there. The larger plan earns its extra ten dollars a month when there is ground beyond that ring, such as a slope running toward the water.

Will the treatment hurt the fish or anything in the water?

Nothing is applied into the lake or onto shoreline that is not yours, and the technician keeps the application back from the waterline. Product goes onto turf, litter and brush at label rate, which is how it stays where it was aimed.

Why do the bites itch for a week when the mite is long gone?

The itch is an allergic response to the feeding tube the larva built into the skin, not to the larva itself, and that tube stays behind after it drops off. It is also why bleach, nail polish and the rest of the folk remedies change nothing: only time resolves a welt that already exists.

When does chigger season end in Pelican Bay?

Around the end of August in most years, having started in May and peaked through the humid weeks of June and July. Shaded ground near the water runs a little longer at both ends than an open lawn in the middle of town.
