Flea & Tick Control in Haltom City, TX

Seventy-year-old trees over small lots make Haltom City a flea town, and the lot sizes keep it at the bottom of the price table.

HALTOM CITY, OLD SHADE

Fleas and ticks in the oldest suburb on our map

Haltom City housing mostly dates from the 1950s through the 1970s, which means the trees are among the biggest in Tarrant County and the yards beneath them rarely see full sun. That is exactly what a flea needs to finish growing up. The egg, larva and pupa stages live in the top layer of shaded, damp soil, and on a settled Haltom City lot with old canopy and older drainage that soil stays damp from the spring rains right through August.

Ticks are a boundary problem here rather than a whole-yard one. Big Fossil Creek and its tributaries run through town, and lots backing onto them sit against tall grass where lone star and American dog ticks climb and wait at ankle height; a few streets away the tick pressure is light. Our program treats the entire lawn and a band around the building on a 21-day cycle from April through September. What it does not treat is the animal, and that is a division of labor rather than a gap: your vet handles the pet, we handle the ground, and a Haltom City household that does only one of those keeps the fleas.

HALTOM CITY PRICES

Why most Haltom City yards pay $49.95 or $59.95

The lots are small, and lot size is the only thing on the meter. A post-war Haltom City yard at 7,000 square feet or under is $49.95 a visit, and the larger lots between 7,001 and 12,000 square feet are $59.95. Only the occasional oversized property along the creek reaches the $69.95 band. The age of the house, the size of the house and how many pets you have do not change the figure.

You see that figure before you say yes, at /instant-quote or by phone, and nothing else is layered on: no contract, no startup charge, nothing to pay when you cancel. Anything that flares up between two scheduled visits is treated again at no cost because the service carries a warranty between treatments.

THE PART WE DO NOT DO

Three ways a Haltom City yard treatment can disappoint

If the fleas are already in the house, a clean yard changes nothing indoors. Old carpet, a dog bed in the same corner for a decade and a cat that sleeps on the sofa give an indoor population everything it needs to keep going on its own. Daily vacuuming for two weeks, bedding washed hot and a vet product on every animal in the house is the indoor half, and it is yours.

If what you actually have is roaches, scorpions or mice coming through seventy-year-old brick, this is the wrong program. Open weep holes, worn door sweeps and unsealed utility penetrations are exclusion work under Home Defender, and a seasonal lawn treatment will not touch them. We would rather point you there than sell you this.

If you back onto Big Fossil Creek, the creek stays untreated. We work your side of the fence hard and stop at the line, so a dog that roams the creek bottom will keep finding ticks. That is a limit of property lines, not of the product, and the fix is checking the dog when it comes in.

VET ONLY VS VET PLUS YARD

The dog is on a flea pill. Why are there still fleas in Haltom City?

Because the pill only meets the fleas that reach the dog, and under old canopy the yard keeps sending more. Roughly 95 percent of the flea population on a shaded Haltom City lot is eggs, larvae and pupae in the soil, none of which the pill ever contacts. Every one that matures gets onto the animal and bites before the product kills it, so the owner sees fleas and assumes the medicine has quit.

It has not quit; the supply is outrunning it. On a small, open, sunny lot the pill often is enough and we will say so. On a shaded post-war lot with the dog outside all day, treating the ground every 21 days is what stops the resupply, and the pill keeps handling the stragglers. Neither one does the other's job.

FIRST TIME OUT, HALTOM CITY

What the first flea and tick visit looks like on an older lot

Following the shade

We start where the ground is still dark at noon: under the big trees, along the north wall, beneath the porch, the fence line where leaf litter has sat since fall. On a Haltom City lot that is often most of the back yard and it gets the heaviest treatment.

Whole lawn, then the brick line

The open turf is covered too, then a band around the foundation so fleas and ticks cannot travel the slab edge to the door. On old brick we also look at where animals bed down against the house. Dry time in summer is around two hours.

The honest conversation

We ask what the pets are on and whether the bedding has been washed. If the answer is nothing and no, we tell you the yard visit will underperform by itself, before you pay for a second one.

HALTOM CITY QUESTIONS

Flea & Tick Control Questions From Haltom City

We back onto Big Fossil Creek. Does that change the flea and tick plan?

It changes where we spend the time. The creek boundary is where the ticks are, so that strip gets treated first and heaviest, and we will tell you how far back to mow. It also means starting on the first visit of the season, because creek-side ground warms and dampens early.

Why does a small Haltom City yard need a visit every 21 days?

Because the flea life cycle is about three to four weeks in summer, and a smaller yard does not slow it down. Each visit catches the generation the previous one could not reach while it was still sealed in cocoons. Stretching the gap to monthly or quarterly lets a full generation mature between visits.

Will you treat inside the house if the fleas are in the carpet?

One interior treatment is included if it is needed, and we will do it. What holds indoors, though, is vacuuming daily, washing bedding hot and keeping the animal on the vet's product. The yard program's job is to stop the outside from refilling the house after that.

How soon can the dog and the grandkids be back on the grass?

When it has dried, which is roughly two hours in summer heat. We treat the soil and the turf, not the animal, so there is nothing on the dog afterwards.

Are there really ticks in Haltom City, or just fleas?

Mostly fleas on the interior streets, and real tick pressure on lots that touch the creek corridor or any unmowed strip. Tarrant County has lone star and American dog ticks, and both wait at grass height along boundaries, so if your fence backs onto tall grass the answer is yes.
