Mosquito Control in Keller: What Works and What Does Not

Barrier treatments applied every 21 days are the only approach that reliably drops mosquito pressure in a Keller yard. Citronella candles and bug zappers do essentially nothing at yard scale. Misting systems work but cost $2,000 to $4,000 installed.

What does not work

Bug zappers kill mostly harmless insects and almost no mosquitoes, and several studies have found they attract more mosquitoes into the area than they kill. Citronella candles have an effect measured in inches, not feet. Ultrasonic repellers do nothing at all. Standing-water tablets work, but only for the water they are in.

What partly works

Box fans genuinely help on a patio, because mosquitoes are weak fliers. Repellent on skin works and is the right call for a one-off evening. Neither does anything about the population living in your shrubs.

What works

Draining standing water is free and it is the highest-return thing you can do. After that, a barrier treatment fogged into the shaded resting areas every 21 days is what actually changes how the yard feels.
