Mosquito Season in North Texas, Month by Month

North Texas mosquito season runs from late March through October. Pressure peaks twice: once in the wet weeks of May and June, then again in August and September when West Nile risk is highest. Treatment from April through September covers both peaks.

March and early April

Activity begins when nighttime lows hold above about fifty degrees. Creek-adjacent and heavily shaded yards, like the Bear Creek corridor in Keller, start two to three weeks earlier than open lots a mile away. This is the month to empty containers before anything hatches.

May and June, the first peak

Spring rain plus warming temperatures produces the biggest population of the year. This is when the yard feels worst and when most people call. Treatments started now are playing catch-up, which is why we push people to start in April.

July, the lull that is not

Heat and dry stretches suppress numbers a little, and people relax. Then a single storm resets the clock and pressure jumps seven to ten days later. Treating through July is what keeps that spike small.

August and September, the risk peak

Numbers may be lower than June but West Nile risk is at its highest, because the virus has had all summer to amplify. This is the worst possible time to stop, and it is exactly when most homeowners do.

October and beyond

Activity tapers as nights cool. In most North Texas years it does not really stop until late October. After that, the useful work is emptying containers so nothing overwinters as eggs waiting for spring.
