Chigger Season in North Texas: When and Where

May through August, worst in the humid weeks, and always the same spots in the same yards year after year.

Chigger season in Tarrant and Parker County runs May through August, peaking in the humid weeks of June and July. Because chiggers overwinter in leaf litter, the same yards and the same corners flare up year after year unless that litter is cleared and the boundary treated.

The seasonal curve

Activity begins as soil warms in May, peaks with June and July humidity, and tails off in the drier heat of late August. A wet summer extends the season at both ends. A genuinely dry July can suppress them noticeably.

Why the same yards, every year

Chiggers overwinter as nymphs and adults in leaf litter and undisturbed ground cover. If that habitat is still there next spring, the population starts from the same place. This is why treating once and changing nothing produces a repeat performance twelve months later.

The North Texas chigger line

Look for the boundary where mown lawn meets something unmown: a pasture edge in Aledo, a wooded draw in Benbrook, a creek corridor in Keller, a neglected fence line anywhere. That transition strip is where nearly all of them are, and it is where treatment belongs.

How many treatments a season

Most yards need two or three across the season rather than a year-round plan. Properties backing pasture, greenbelt or woods usually need three. We would rather sell you three well-timed treatments than a twelve-month plan you do not need.
