Quarterly vs Monthly Pest Control: Which Do You Need?

The interval is set by the pest, not by the billing cycle. Here is which is which.

Quarterly works for perimeter pests like ants, spiders, roaches and wasps, because barrier products hold roughly three months. Monthly is necessary for fleas, because the flea life cycle runs three to four weeks and a quarterly interval lets two entire generations pass untreated.

Why perimeter pests suit quarterly

A liquid barrier holds for around three months under North Texas conditions, and the pests it targets do not complete a generation inside the structure fast enough to outrun that. Four visits a year also happen to line up with the seasonal shifts in pressure, which is convenient rather than coincidental.

Why fleas need monthly

The flea cycle is three to four weeks in summer. At quarterly intervals the population fully rebuilds between visits, so you pay four times a year and live with fleas most of it. This is not an upsell, it is arithmetic.

Mosquitoes are neither

Mosquito treatment runs on a 21 day cycle through the season, because that is how long the barrier lasts against a pest with a seven to ten day life cycle. Calling it monthly is close enough for conversation and slightly wrong in practice.

How to tell if somebody is selling you the wrong one

If a company offers monthly perimeter pest control at a premium, ask what the extra eight visits are doing that four would not. If a company offers quarterly flea treatment, ask how it handles the generations in between. Both questions have good answers or they have none.
