Low pest control quotes usually hide one of four things: the yard is excluded, the price is per visit rather than per month, there is a startup or initial service fee, or there is a contract with a cancellation charge. All four are findable with direct questions before you commit.
One: the yard is excluded
This is the most common. A foundation-only treatment is a legitimate service and it is much cheaper, but it will not touch mosquitoes, chiggers, fleas or fire ants. If your problem is in the yard, a perimeter-only quote is not a competing offer.
Two: per visit versus per month
A quote of ninety-nine dollars means very different things depending on which it is. Ask how many visits a year and what the annual total comes to. Then compare annual totals rather than headline numbers.
Three: the initial service fee
Some companies quote an attractive ongoing rate and add a substantial one-time startup charge that appears on the first invoice. There are legitimate reasons for a higher first visit, and there is no legitimate reason not to mention it in the quote.
Four: the contract
A twelve-month agreement with a cancellation fee turns a bad experience into an expensive one. Ask whether you can stop at any time and what it costs to do so. Our plans are month to month with no fee, which is a deliberately boring answer.
The one question that surfaces all four
Ask for the total you will pay over the next twelve months, in writing, including everything. Any company that cannot produce that number quickly is a company whose pricing is doing work you cannot see.
